In a joint effort between Utah County and the National Forest
Service a new bridge was installed across the Provo River on Tuesday,
November 28. The new bridge will connect the hiking trail in Provo
Canyon to the Upper Falls Picnic Area creating easier access to the
Utah County trail system.
The bridge was constructed in two pieces and assembled at the site
before being lifted by crane across the river. Weighing in at 45,000 pounds,
the bridge measures 100 feet long by 13 feet wide. In a great example of
government partnership, the Forest Service contributed $150,000 and the
county $60,000 for the new bridge. The county portion came out of the
2017 Utah County parks budget.
