For the fourth year Riverside Country Club played host to the
Utah PGA’s Utah Open. Attracting golfers from all over the west, this
year’s Utah Open belonged to BYU golfer Patrick Fishburn.
Not only did Fishburn win the Utah Open Sunday, August 27, he
did it in record-breaking fashion, firing a final-round 63 to finish with
an astounding 26-under par 190 total that broke the tournament
record set two years ago.
By winning, Fishburn became just the fifth amateur to win the
Utah Open in its 91-year history. Fishburn, who will be starting his
senior year at BYU, couldn’t accept the $20,000 first prize but could
take consolation in the $700 credit he earned in the pro shop.
