RaNae Powell started working for Utah County in 1997. After a few
years in the Personnel Office and Health Admin, RaNae saw the light,
found her passion, and joined the WIC team as our Administrative
In a sea of change over the past 10 years at WIC, RaNae has been the
lighthouse in the harbor for our department. The answer to most of
our questions is: Ask RaNae! She either has the answer or knows who
to call to get the answer. RaNae helps all of us know what the County
Policies are and makes sure we are in compliance with the policies. As
a non-dietetic member of the WIC Management Team, RaNae brings an
alternative view and options that keeps us in line and clarifies blurry
areas. A co-worker said “RaNae has always been a help to me whenever
I have had a question. Her method of answering the question is very
helpful. She doesn’t just give the answers but gives the resources to find
the answers. She wants us to learn.”
One of the major changes we have seen in the last year at WIC is
in the position of our Division Director. RaNae trained the previous
Director and is now training the Acting Director on budget, time cards,
staff scheduling, absence requests, hiring, and much, much more. She
is also super efficient at what she does in the office and makes the office
run smoothly during these times of flux at WIC.
RaNae know where any WIC employee is at any given time. When
the nutrition staff calls in sick, RaNae is on the front lines trying to
RaNae is so positive! She always comes to work with a good attitude.
A co-worker says, “Every morning when I come in RaNae is there to
greet me, that totally makes my day!” RaNae usually can be found with
a smile on her face. Even when things are a little difficult she says “I will
be just fine” and smiles. RaNae’s laughter is contagious.
RaNae is always thinking of others. She shows her love and concern
for the people around her in the things she does daily. Such as making
sure we put our time in correctly so we can get paid, especially for
mileage. RaNae is very good at explaining how to do things and will
walk us through each step multiple times until we get it. It takes a lot
of patience to show this kind of concern and understanding. RaNae
has even gone out of her way to sympathize with staff when they lose
a loved one, whether human or fur baby. She gives encouragement to
keep going and keep smiling even when it gets hard.
RaNae makes the most amazing salsa we’ve ever tasted. We love
it when we walk in and find a bag of corn chips on her desk, knowing
what is in the fridge! The salsa doesn’t last long around our office.
RaNae loves to travel, especially in the winter months. It is fun to see.
her latest vacation photos cycle through her computer screensaver.
RaNae is a loving and supportive wife of an extreme runner and rock
enthusiast. The mother of two children who would be lost without her.
The grandmother of six who love to spent time with her-especially the
RaNae is a very valuable part of the WIC team. We would fall
completely apart without her. She is patient, optimistic, creative, kind,
caring and so positive it seems contagious. We can’t imagine WIC
