There’s no better choice for Employee of the Month than Katie Fox, Victim
Coordinator for the Utah County Attorney’s Office. She’s undeniably one of the
most devoted employees in the office and has been for the past nine years.
As the second largest prosecuting office in the State, we deal with hundreds
of cases per month. Despite only having the budget for 1 and ¾ Victim
Coordinators, our office has smartly entrusted Katie Fox as the point person
in our Victim-Coordinator responsibilities. She is especially passionate about
helping children who have been victimized and it shows. She will get down on
her hands and knees to play Barbie, zoom Hot Wheels around on the carpet
or play endless games of Checkers. Anytime a child needs to be in court, Katie
will cancel everything to be there to support them.
When Katie comes into the office early or stays unexpectedly late, she always
needs to re- arrange child care for her own children. She never seems annoyed
or inconvenienced, she seems happy to do it because she knows she’s serving
others. Katie is also the first person to volunteer to help in a meeting or run a
document over to court when needed. She doesn’t ever seem to think about
herself, only others. Katie’s compassion is noticeable in the way she connects
with victims. She takes the time to talk to them not only about their criminal
case but their life in general. She has a deep desire to help alleviate their
suffering and will go out of her way to help. Katie is someone we look up to
and strive to be more like in our professional careers.
Her attorneys have said that she is cognizant of the victims in their cases and
takes care of the human side of their cases. “We often get bogged down with
the legal issues and Katie gently (sometimes not-so-gently!) reminds me that
behind the laws and motions and the court hearings, that there is a person
who is being affected by what I do.” Katie is fantastic to work with but more
than that, she is a good friend. I appreciate her happiness and willingness to
do whatever she is assigned to do— even though they are not always the most
pleasant assignments. Her pleasant attitude makes working difficult cases
a little bit easier. In my book, Katie is not just employee of the month, but
employee of the century!
